Israel Targets Beirut and Tehran in Broad Wave of Strikes

Israel has launched a series of strikes against Beirut and Tehran, citing retaliation for Hezbollah’s rocket-and-drone barrage and aiming to degrade Iranian military infrastructure. The stated reasons behind these strikes are to retaliate against Hezbollah for their attacks on an Israeli base in Haifa and to weaken the Iranian terror regime that supplies Hezbollah.

The strikes have resulted in significant casualties, with 31 killed in Beirut and over 1,100 in Iran since the war began. The Israeli Defence Minister has warned that ‘Hezbollah will pay a heavy price’ for their actions, and senior Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has been singled out as a target.

The conflict has the potential to escalate regional tensions and destabilize the Middle East. The international community is likely to be concerned about the humanitarian impact of the conflict and the potential for further escalation.
