Google has announced plans to double its AI spending to $185bn, with a focus on several key initiatives. These include building AI-focused data-center capacity, accelerating custom Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), and scaling the Gemini family of models. The company aims to create a ‘Gemini-first’ ecosystem, where the Gemini model powers Search, Cloud, Workspace, Android, and partner products. The increased spending is expected to drive growth in Google Cloud AI services, with a projected $70bn annual run-rate in 2026. Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, stated that the company is ‘doubling down on AI data-center capacity’ to ensure Gemini can be served at scale worldwide.
